Our House Hunters Episode is Online (We Think)

We always know when reruns of our House Hunters International episode air because we wake up to the nicest messages in our inbox from people seeing it for the first time. If you're new to our blog and found us via the show...welcome!

Since the episode originally aired last year, we've had lots of people ask us if the video is available online. From what we can tell, it was recently added to HGTV.com. Since we're located in Italy, we can't watch the video, but from the thumbnail on the site it looked legit. If you have trouble watching the embedded version above, try accessing it from the HHI page on HGTV.com.

House Hunters International Florence, Italy: Ciao to Our New Readers

Our House Hunter's International episode was originally scheduled to air tonight (although the HGTV website says it will now air next week). No matter what night it airs, we wanted to make sure we had a special blog post to welcome new readers we pick up from the show -- I used to Google people featured on the show all of the time -- normal or stalkerish? You decide!

Anyway, we're glad you've found us and we hope you didn't find us too obnoxious on television :-) Our DVD copy from the production company has not arrived yet, so most people will see the episode before us!

We moved to Florence last January and filmed the episode in May. We had a blast with the crew over three days of filming, but there are a few things we'd like to say...

  • We promise we are nice people. Any trite/stupid/vapid/moronic statements made on camera were created for your viewing enjoyment and most likely aren't real things that we would normally say (although the stove in the red apartment was seriously wicky-whack...my hands were sticky for hours). If you do, however, feel the need to mock us further, check out this post from when we were fat!
  • I have no idea how the show will be edited, but for the love of all that is holy please do not believe what you might see on our episode about Italian dual citizenship. Contrary to the magic of "reality" TV, you do not walk into a consulate/embassy and walk out with a Carta d'Identita. In real reality, it's a long, drawn-out and often miserable process. We have lots of posts about it here.
  • Everyone thinks we are rich. We are not. We are two Type-A's that through OCD-levels of organization and budgeting managed to move abroad.
  • Not sure what "before" footage they'll show, but the restaurant my sister and I ate at in Philly is called El Vez and it's kind of amazing.
  • Yes, Winston is as cute as he appears on TV. Although he really is the stinkiest dog in the history of the world.

Once the episode airs we'd love to hear what you think...sound off in the comments below!

Lights, Camera, Action! House Hunters: Florence, Italy

Back in June, we hinted that we had spent a few days "working" on a fun little project. If you haven't already guessed by now, we're going to be on House Hunters International. Our episode is scheduled to air on November 28 and you can read more about it on the HGTV website.

A lot of people have been asking us what the experience was like. The honest answer? It was interesting. The UK-based crew we had in Florence was seriously awesome (the top photo was snapped by the camera guy). The shooting days are long, so you spend a lot of time with the sound and video guys and the director. They were at hoot and we had a great time (Rob may have even done his best British accent impersinations for them). I flew home to Philly to shoot "before" scenes and had a great crew there, as well. Although, I will always remember that 2-day trip home for the hellish USAirways experience more than anything else.

All that being said, as a previous diehard fan (read: addict) of the show, I will say that the experience has totally ruined the program for me -- simply because I now know how things really come together; what's real (not much) and what's fake (mostly everything).

A fellow blogger, Kirsten from Ivory Pomegranate, lives in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and recently had her episode of the show air. She did a great series of posts about her experience that sums up what it's like to film the show. Not great, not bad...just interesting, like I said. Fun sidenote: Kirsten and her husband are also both GWU grads and met there while undergrads. Small world, eh?

Anyway, get excited to see us (and Winston!) on TV. And, remember, take it easy on us :-)
