Living in Italy: Pensione Annalena & The City of Florence

R.W.B Lewis's book, The City of Florence, is a great read for anyone that loves Florence, Italy -- whether you live here or not. He wrote the book in the early 1960's while he was living here with his wife and family. The book is full of great bits of history and descriptions of spots in Florence that simply have not changed.

One description that caught my eye was of Pensione Annalena, which is right down the street from our apartment. So, I thought I'd go down and shoot some video, narrarate with Lewis's words and share it with you all. Hope you enjoy.

Living in Florence: More Photos from the Bargello

One of the things that I was most pleasantly surprised by in the Bargello was all of the decorative accessories on display. From jewelry to textiles to home decor, there seemed to be beautiful old items at every turn -- in addition to fantastic sculpture and architecture.

What really caught my eye was the tie-dyed-meets-Missoni-meets-Medici pottery, pictured in the top left of the above collage. Honestly, if that was for sale right now I'd scoop it up in a second.

Living in Florence: Just another day in the neighborhood

Rob and I were walking back from a little date day this weekend when we happened upon a parade of folks in Renaissance garb -- which, surprisingly, isn't all that rare here in Florence.

It took some serious internet sleuthing to figure out what the parade was for: Campionato di tiro con la balestra a braccio. I'll save you a trip to Google Translate...it's a crossbow competition. I'm pretty sure if we had known that at the time Rob would have insisted on following the parade and watching.

living in florence, italy: i love our city.

While I was away in Philadelphia for a few days last week, Rob was a man about town! He wandered around and took some really amazing photos. I love Florence and it inspires me daily, but so often I limit myself to seeing it through my own lens. When I came home and saw all of his wonderful photos it made me smile and feel so blessed that I live here. He sees details in life that I would normally just pass on by.

All photos by Rob :-)
